Coach of the Year Awards

NEW for 2025!

ESDCTA is excited to present the Coach of the Year Award and Reserve Coach of the Year Award for both Dressage and Eventing! This is a fantastic opportunity for coaches to be recognized for their students’ achievements in the ESDCTA Year-End Awards program. These awards, along with all other Year-End Awards, will be presented at our annual awards luncheon.

Who is eligible: ESDCTA members who are coaches and have students applying for ESDCTA Year-End Awards (namely High Score Awards and Achievement Awards).

Rules:

  1. Coaches and their riders must be current ESDCTA members at the time that all Year-End Award scores are earned.
  2. For a coach to receive points for their students’ Year-End Awards achievements, their students must list the name of their coach on their Year-End Awards Form. Only submissions that have a coach listed will be counted.
  3. Open (professional) riders may list their coaches, but cannot list themselves as their own coach.
  4. Only one coach can be listed, however a rider could list a different coach for a dressage award vs an eventing award.
  5. In the event of a tie, the total number of students qualifying for Year-End Awards will be used as the first tiebreaker. If still tied, the number of 1st place finishes will be considered, followed by 2nd place, and so on, until the tie is broken.

How to Calculate a Coach’s Score

Coaches earn points based on their students’ placements in the ESDCTA Year-End Awards standings. For example, if a coach has a student who won Champion (7 points), plus another student who earned both an Achievement Ribbon (1 point) and a 3rd place (5 points), that coach’s total score would be 13 points.

7 points – 1st place (Champion)

6 points – 2nd place (Reserve Champion)

5 points – 3rd place

4 points – 4th place

3 points- 5th place

2 points – 6th place

1 point – 7th place and below, and Achievement Awards
